Drawing and painting have always been a way for me to relax and focus on the moment. When my children were little, I began doing pencil portraits of people and animals by commission as well as painting acrylic murals in people’s homes and businesses. In 2001, I was commissioned to paint fishing boats on the side of Trinity Lutheran Church on River Road in Delta, which is still there.
As my children got older and life got busier I stepped away from commissions and took some lessons in oil painting to create larger-than-life florals. I couldn’t get enough and began taking all kinds of classes online and at local artist guilds. I have tried many techniques and mediums, but am currently in love with watercolours and gouache.
My subjects are varied, from nature and wildlife, to vehicles and buildings. I love flowers, bugs and beasties and am happiest when outside drawing and splashing paint on paper, where I find endless inspiration in the creatures and textures in my own backyard. I tend to combine outdoor preliminary sketches with photos to create vibrant and somewhat whimsical depictions of the world around me.
In the past, my original work has gone to private collectors in Canada, Mexico, and Scotland, but I am very excited to be offering prints as well as originals of my current watercolour works. I am happy to take on commissions and look forward to getting back to teaching informal classes in my home in the future.
